Top 100 “most Stunning Under-the-radar” Islands Has Three Greek Listings

Ios

New York-based insider media company affiliated with well-known and respected Business Insider has compiled a list of “100 Stunning Islands Around the World That Fly Under the Radar.”

Insider asked some of the most influential travel bloggers and experts like HotelTonight, Secret Escapes, Topdeck Travel, PK’s List and TravelSupermarket about the most breathtaking and memorable lesser known islands they have ever visited. Frequent travelers in our own office also contributed, and some tips were adopted by digital journalists and TripAdvisor users.

The list was not classified, but of the three Greek islands featured, it showed Paros first.

According to Insider, Emma Leggat, communications director for hotel deals and booking app HotelTonight, said: “The deserted beaches, beautiful hills and whitewashed villages of this island make the perfect setting for anyone looking for a more relaxed atmosphere than the crowds of nearby Mykonos. Explore the charming villages and let yourself be pampered by a culinary scene with renowned restaurants and authentic gems. “

The next Greek island was Thassos.

“As the hit Mamma Mia films flocked to Greece, think of Thassos as the undiscovered Skiathos (on which the film is based),” said Reigo Eljas, country director at lastminute.com. “Known as the emerald of the Aegean, you can really enjoy breathtaking landscapes and beaches. There are plenty of quaint tavernas to lounge in while drinking and eating – it’s really, really Greek.

“Thassos is also ideal for water sports such as diving, paddling, kayaking and sailing. You can fly into Kavala and from there it’s a nice 30 minute ferry ride. “

The last Greek island was Ios.

Business Insider Senior Editor Ali Millington, who visited Ios between more popular Greek resorts such as Santorini and Athens, said, “This is an amazing, lesser-known find in the Greek islands. It has beautiful beaches, but it’s the vibe and nightlife that should draw you here. If you fancy a party, stay at the Far Out Beach Club. “
