TCEB’s respect for local identities brings TBEX Asia 2021 to Phuket

The strategy of the Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) to put the different qualities of each MICE city in the spotlight has resulted in the Phuket office being awarded the contract to host TBEX Asia 2021, when around 600 travel bloggers, Content creators and social media influencers around the world will be gathering in this Andaman paradise to experience its local and cultural identities.

TCEB President Chiruit Isarangkun Na Ayuthaya said TCEB had developed a strategy for Phuket to create a new brand identity for MICE by highlighting the island’s cultural heritage, traditional crafts and indigenous way of life.

This is part of TCEB’s policy to increase and enhance the attractiveness of MICE cities across the country by working with all local authorities to develop strategies that are deeply ingrained in the DNA of each destination.

Thailand’s current MICE cities include Phuket, Chiang Mai, Khon Kaen, Bangkok, Pattaya, Songkhla and Nakhon Ratchasima.

The office recently set up four new regional offices to oversee MICE development in the North, Northeast, Central and South regions. For Phuket, the Southern Regional Office has planned the development of MICE products and activities related to the local culture and communities so that the island can create new experiences for MICE travelers with the beauty of the Andaman Sea and the diversity of culture.

“The successful offer for Phuket to host TBEX Asia from October 20-22, 2021 is therefore in line with our strategy and is in time for the island destination to develop its new brand identity for MICE as around 600 travel bloggers, content creators and It is expected that Social media influencers attend the event. “

In collaboration with the Thai Tourism Authority (TAT), the hosting organization of TBEX Asia 2021 and Phuket Town, TCEB organized the media and blogger inspection trip for bloggers from Thailand from October 6-8, 2020 for more than a preview only Sun, sea and sand, but an island full of lively impressions and fascinating history.

This includes visits to exciting new locations that highlight the legacy of early Chinese settlers, sea gypsies, and traditional shops like the Ban Ar-Jor Museum and Homestay, a mansion built in 1936 by a wealthy Chinese settler and restored to its original glory , floating lobster farm run by sea gypsies and ancient Chinese shrines.

Christopher Lau, one of the participating bloggers, said, “Phuket is a travel destination that seems overrated and known only for island hopping. Well that’s wrong. Just took a quick trip to learn about the history of Phuket including staying at the first hotel in all of Phuket in the old town. It was an experience I would recommend to any traveler to Phuket – to really get to know the history of Thailand’s largest island. It will be worth everyone’s time! “
