Italians have been advised against traveling to other European countries due to increasing coronavirus cases. The State Department warned them that if travel bans were necessary, they could face problems returning home.
The ministry said that given the high number of infections in many European countries, future further restrictions on movements that could make it difficult to return to Italy could not be ruled out.
Similar return problems could occur with a much more severe frequency when traveling to destinations outside the EU.
The number of new COVID cases in the past 24 hours fell from over 21,000 Sunday to 17,012 Monday, the Ministry of Health said.
There were 141 new victims, up from 128 on Sunday.
At 124,686, the number of swabs was also around 40,000 less than on Sunday (161,880).
