Instagram and Condé Nast Traveler India turn 10 this week and we’re celebrating this in the best possible way: with a look back at the trips that have left a lasting mark on us.
Condé Nast Traveler India, India’s leading luxury travel publisher, and Instagram, the world’s most popular photo sharing network, are partnering with a variety of digital content creators to inspire audiences on the platform to share their favorite travel memories around the topic divide: #BestTripsLastForever. This includes photographers, filmmakers, artists, chefs, travel bloggers, celebrities, etc. Be sure to check out @cntravellerindia starting Tuesday October 6th. The celebration will also feature the best of Condé Nast Traveler India’s travel photography archive from the past 10 years – don’t miss it.
“We’re very excited to share our 10th anniversary with Instagram, which has been a great platform for people to share their travels with,” said Divia Thani, CNT editor. “Even now, at a time when travel is disrupted, audience engagement and readership is higher than ever. They remember their past travels every day and share their memories with each other as they impatiently plan their next trip. This encouraged us to create 10th anniversary content on the topic #BestTripsLastForever As our audience of passionate travelers truly believe that nothing is more precious and enriching than travel – the memories nourish your soul for life! “
How Instagram changed travel
Instagram has changed the way we live, eat, shop and of course travel. Selfies against the world’s most famous monuments climbing to the top of a mountain or the edge of a cliff just for the perfect sunrise. #Follow to the most beautiful places in the world, a seemingly endless stream of images of infinity pools overlooking blue seas with blue skies on the horizon, influencers lying in perfectly jumbled beds with perfect hotel breakfast trays, and of course 2020 was with # tbt filled with our favorite trips of all time …
Who could imagine that Instagram has only been around for 10 years? On October 6, 2010, the founders of the app Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger started Instagram as a social network for sharing photos. The added benefit is that the square images can be instantly filtered, which makes them all the easier to share. Just two years later, Facebook acquired Instagram (and Kim Kardashian signed up). The scale today is staggering: just last month, more than 1 billion people posted photos on Instagram. The hashtag trip raises more than 522 million posts, #travelphotography and #travelgram each more than 131 million.
10 years Condé Nast Traveler India
This month, the Indian edition of Condé Nast Traveler also celebrates a decade. When they started they had a print magazine, a website and a BlackBerry app, but no Instagram account, recalls editor Divia Thani. Today, the luxury travel brand has 375,000 Instagram followers and recently launched a competition with the Kandima Resort in the Maldives where one lucky person and their family can win 365 days in a hotel in the Maldives. “Instagram has been a great way for us to keep in touch with our audience. It’s made up of passionate, discerning travelers who really miss being on the go.”
Condé Nast Traveler was founded in 1987 by legendary journalist Harold Evans in New York and today has eight editions worldwide, including the US, UK, India, China, the Middle East, Italy and Spain. The brand was developed for the discerning traveler looking for authentic experiences. It has evolved from a print format to a multimedia platform that includes video creation, on-site and now virtual events. The annual Readers’ Travel Awards are the gold standard in the industry and are considered the Oscars of Travel. In India, Condé Nast Traveler is also running new IPs such as the hugely successful India’s Top Restaurant Awards and Hot Tables. On October 1, 2010, Condé Nast Traveler India presented its starting edition (with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in Louis Vuitton in Paris) at a party at The Oberoi, Mumbai. The 10th anniversary edition will be out later this month. Join the celebration online: Follow @cntravellerindia and #BestTripsLastForever.
