Mr Biden plans to appoint former Surgeon General Vivek Murthy and former Food and Drug Administration Commissioner David Kessler as co-chairs of the working group.
Dr. Murthy and Dr. Kessler were part of a group of experts and doctors who kept Mr Biden informed of the pandemic for months throughout the campaign. During that campaign, he regularly criticized Donald Trump’s handling of the pandemic.
The group is tasked with translating the proposals he published during the campaign to fight the pandemic – including investing in PPE and small business loans – into a “blueprint” that he will adopt when the president is inaugurated next January .
The United States is the first country to exceed 10 million coronavirus infections, according to a Reuters tally. This milestone was reached on the same day that coronavirus cases worldwide exceeded 50 million.
