Boots is said to offer a coronavirus testing service that can return swab test results in just 12 minutes.
The pharmacy chain announced that the LumiraDx devices, which can rapidly process swab tests to deliver same-day results to customers, will be launched in select stores over the next few weeks.
The price will be £ 120 per test, which would make one of the cheapest private Covid-19 tests on the market, according to Boots.
Boots has also launched a 48-hour testing service available in 10 stores in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Edinburgh and Glasgow. The program is expected to expand to more than 50 branches across the country.
The service is available as a private pre-flight test for customers who need a test before going abroad, or as a solution for those who prefer quiet before visiting friends and family.
Seb James, UK’s managing director of Boots, said the program is being implemented to ease pressure on the country’s health services.

“Boots has supported the government’s Covid-19 testing program from the start and offering this new in-store service is the next step in our efforts to fight the pandemic,” he said.
“By offering this testing option in local community stores, we hope that Boots can help ease pressure on the NHS and the government by giving people across the UK additional access to testing and crucial collateral.
“Boots has been part of the UK’s main street for over 170 years and proud to be on the front lines of the NHS. We will continue to do our part to support the country’s health needs in this challenging time and beyond.”
Customers who have no symptoms of Covid-19 can book an in-store test through the company’s website, Boots.com.
