Book tickets at the earliest for a safe Deepavali travel- The New Indian Express

CHENNAI: Commuters planning to travel during the Deepavali Holiday (November 14th) may need to book tickets early to travel safely due to the pandemic crisis.

Since over 75 percent of commuters travel without a reservation during the festival season, the traffic officials have advised commuters to reserve bus or train tickets at the earliest. “Pre-booking ensures that commuters are not forced to ride in jam-packed buses that risk their lives,” said a transport official.

Given that the omni-bus service has not yet resumed and the state buses are operating at less than 60 percent capacity, transportation companies face major challenges as they assess travel needs for the festival.

“Travel patterns have changed dramatically in the past few months and we cannot assess the real demand for Deepavali this year,” added the official. There are currently 400 to 420 SETC buses in operation in the state.
